RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

I've had it before where it keeps sticking to the goggles, and then melting. It's not that big of a deal to wipe them off, but it gets old fast and anything that messes with your vision probably isn't good.
Even at low speeds those tracks of mine kicked up plenty of snow. Look at the front fender in the pic - all that gets thrown at your back. And everything underneath the rear fenders is packed with snow. The snow gets into the hood of your jacket and under the back of your helmet, and then as you move around it starts to work its way down your back. But then I wasn't wearing a $300 snow jacket either.

RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

Actually snow dust can really suck sometimes, and I can see where that might be an issue.

RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

You make a valid point, CC. I never asked what the winters are like around there, and that could definitely be a factor. If you get a track with short lugs, some ice scratchers, and a marginal snow wheel kit for the skid you can run in almost nothing, or on bare ice. I guess it depends on what he decides to do with it, whether it will get used for mostly work or not. Though for me anyway, once I took the first ride I was hooked on the fun factor.
Here's a pic of the tracks, they sit in the shed collecting dust right now. Takes a lot of power to turn them - not ideal for the highly-geared raptor. Max speed was probably 30mph in snow, but I guess if you were using them for work at slow speeds they would perform quite well. Flotation and traction are great. I thought, if nothing else, at least it looks kinda cool and unique.

RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

You're right camo, most any sled should be able to pull gear around.
I would think that any problems you run into from pulling something would most likely be clutch related(you might burn up or wear down a belt), or possible overheating if you're going slow and snow doesn't hit the heat exchangers. Power shouldn't be much of an issue, although it'd be nice to have a 150 hp 4 stroke under the hood just in case :B
I'm a fan of the 4 strokes, in case you haven't noticed. If I was buying a sled I'd get one of them for a lot of reasons.

RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

If you can spend $5000 I'd go with a 4 stroke sled. The 4 strokes have a more linear power band and are about as reliable as you can get.

RE: Anybody Have Experience with ATV Track Systems?

I was looking at tracks a few years ago as well, but I decided to go the snowmobile route instead not really knowing what to expect. I ended up really liking it, and now if I had to choose between the ATVs or sleds, I'd keep the sleds without a doubt. My opinion is, in comparison to ATVs, snowmobiles are cheaper, faster, and easier to work on. For $2500 I got a 120hp sled that tops out around 110mph and is a lot more fun to ride than the Raptor, which also cost me $2500.

RE: Sled heads , listen up!

how much $$ are we talking here. It might not be the most reliable sled, but if it's set up and running right it's going to be fast. Coming off a '79 polaris, you're gonna absolutely love the mach z..haha

RE: I need some serious advice guys

Here's my 2 cents, and since I never hardly come on here I might not even see the rest of this thread.
Be very, very, very careful, especially with your trust of her. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but it's not hard for someone to put on an act and do a good job of it. You can get wrapped up in a whole mess really quick. Maybe it's not a big deal and everything is ok, but there's always the possiblity you could be on some thin ice man.

RE: last night of the deemy circus. Thank god!

I am honestly surprised that there are this many of you on this forum that don't support global warming. I agree with you guys 100%. I don't know a single person though that doesn't believe in it...it has been just accepted as fact almost everywhere. Tell anyone that global warming is fake and they will laugh.

I really wish I could go...I'd like to check out the sled swapmeet at least, good place to find a bargain, looking for a heelclicker setup for the sled right now.

RE: Ipod in your car????

I've used a Griffin iTrip. I think they are $50-60, not sure, I got it on ebay for $16 and the sound quality is great. But I also have a really cheap one and the sound quality is lacking. So there is a definite difference in quality. The nice thing about the transmitter is that you can move it around from vehicle to vehicle.

RE: any new updates on the 450's?

I heard somewhere, actually I think in AtvSport magazine, that the 2009 yfz is going to have some major upgrades. I think it's more than just a rumor.

RE: I am the official deal master...got some parts coming/here

Since you got that head so cheap, my suggestion is that you should get some JB weld and try out the high velocity port theory. Read articles 16-20 on this website (or at least articles 16 and 17 if you don't want to waste 2 hours with reading lol, they're pretty long and technical)...I found this stuff very interesting and I'd like to try it out on a cheap used head sometime to see if he's right. He says he gets an 8% power increase, and that conventional porting and polishing will actually hurt the power output. Interesting.http://mototuneusa.com/thanx.htm

RE: used ATV advice

The price would be a big factor for me. If the price significantly cheaper than others with less miles, then it might be worth it considering how you are going to use it. You wouldn't be putting that many miles on it and it's not likely to be ridden hard. It might last you a long time. Polaris is a big name around here and people seem to have good luck with them.

RE: some questions about wheel bearings for wolverine 350

I bought a set of front bearings off ebay for $20 and put them in today. Took about 15 min start to finish per wheel on the raptor, but yours might be more complicated because of the 4wd. It's not that hard of a job though. I agree that you should get it fixed now before it's a big problem.
Be careful not to get any grease on the brake rotors...yeah, I did on one, it still doesn't lock up like the other side after riding today...lol.

RE: 700xx buyer review in the trails

Quote from test in Quad magazine June/July. : (I was a little surprised the engine didn't have more snap being that it's a 700- class sport machine. Gut comparison the Raptor feels more powerful overall in every area of the engines curve. Seat of the pants acceleration just wasn't there. Even riding on hard packed desert terrain it still didn't pull very hard.): Read the test. Sounds to me like Honda has some work to do to get it competitive with the Raptor. They also said the suspension wasn't up to par.
The part about the suspension not being up to par is interesting. What conditions were they testing in? Because I've heard more than once that the suspension is one of the best things about the 700xx, though I think they should have made it more adjustable.
